This past month, Tripoli Gallery has begun a series of pop-up exhibitions that have formed around the various sites for which they are curated. By allowing the spaces to dictate the shows, each location creates a unique exhibition experience by bringing artworks out of the gallery setting and into new contexts. The September pop-up exhibitions include Miles Partington: Below the Storm at Montauk Oceans Institute, HANGAR: Vahakn Arslanian and Lauren West in Hangar 11 at the East Hampton Airport, and a container at the September Art Show at The Bridge Golf Club featuring Sabra Moon Elliot, Kurt Gumaer, and Mary Heilmann.
Next in the pop-up series, Gift Shop presents an expansive array of artworks and objects that are often part of an edition or series. Alongside works by contemporary artists, the exhibition reintroduces a screenprint from a portfolio by Robert Rauschenberg. Dated 1970, the print is composed of collaged newspaper clippings arranged within a square format with pencil marks drawn by the artist.
Filling up the shop in a salon-style display, artworks and items on view will include: painted wood jewelry by Miles Partington, miniature cast aluminum sculptures and jewelry by Benjamin Keating, Emoji Portrait editions by Yung Jake, books by Robyn Lea containing her photographs, hats from Australia by Fallen Broken Street founded by artist Justin Crawford, felt jewelry and objects by Saskia Friedrich, blown glass vessels by Bengt Hokanson and Trefny Dix, handcrafted wood benches by Kurt Gumaer, prints by James Rosenquist, jewelry by Genevieve-Hudson Price, a signed edition by Roy Lichtenstein from 1971, and many more, with a printed wallpaper installation of a watercolor painting by Judith Hudson.
