Waintscott, NY - A few years ago Julian Schnabel curated a painting exhibition at the Ludwig Museum in Koblenz, Germany called Unknown or The Magnificent Ten, a selection of painters of varied ages and from different places around the globe. I’ve had an affinity with this work and have been familiar with some of these artists. Some of whom I had the pleasure of exhibiting before. I am pleased to continue this exploration into painting, one that is personal, inventive, surprising and original. If one can say that about any paintings.
Through conversations with Julian, we are happy to present new work from 3 of the artists from that exhibition and one who could have been. Chuck Manion lives and works in Montauk. Nick Mead is an English painter who has been transplanted to New Haven, Connecticut. Lola Montes lives and works in Sicily. Felicidad Moreno lives and works in Borox, Spain, located between Toledo and Madrid.
“These painters demonstrate that inventiveness can occur anywhere with some paint, other materials, and the will to see something that no one has ever seen before with the belief that they might recognize it when they see it.” – Julian Schnabel
