East Hampton, NY – Tripoli Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new oil paintings by Gordon Stevenson titled, Never Say Goodbye. On view at Tripoli Gallery East Hampton, 87 Newtown Lane, from August 27th through September 28th, 2015, Never Say Goodbye will open with a reception for the artist on Thursday, August 27th, from 6 to 8 pm, marking Gordon Stevenson’s second solo show at Tripoli Gallery.

A further developed sequel to the series first presented in I Remember It Differently (2014), Stevenson leads us down memory lane to the fantastical world of his childhood; one spent enchanted by cartoons and comics. Never Say Goodbye touches on the notion of the still frame itself, as a moment frozen in both time and memory. Transformed into oil on canvas, Stevenson illuminates their compositional mastery while allowing us, as adult viewers, to experience the humor and wit we may have missed years ago.

Nostalgic and quintessentially American, the cartoons have also become tangible references to Stevenson’s own personal memories and experiences. “They are moments of cartoons that I can never forget; they are stuck with me forever. My appreciation for these images stems from them always somehow popping into my mind…,” explains Stevenson. Never Say Goodbye encapsulates youthful, romantic memories and brings them into adulthood, where the guidance from our own imagination and creativity remains as important as ever.

Gordon Stevenson was born in 1984 in New York, NY and has been spending time in Southampton since his childhood. He received his BFA from Bard College and has been included in numerous exhibitions across the country and internationally. Stevenson’s work has been included in group shows at Tripoli Gallery since its inception in 2009: Of A Different Feather (2009), Flip Flops & Popsicles (2011), Footprints (2012); a two-man show with Yung Jake Trading Faces (2010); and a solo exhibition, I Remember It Differently (2014). Stevenson has gained notable press including features in The New York Times and Time Out New York. He currently works and lives in New York City.
