Press Release August 14, 2009

After two well-received solo exhibitions this summer, the Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art is pleased to announce its first group exhibition: Of a Different Feather.

Featuring four exceptional artists: Lisa de Kooning, Jake U. Patterson, Gordon Stevenson, and Robert S. L. Waltzer, the diversity in personality, background, and style, as well as their use of varied mediums, has made this group exhibition an exciting and unique one.

Jake U. Patterson was the youngest artist in the 2008 Annual Hamptons Show at The Springs Fire Place Project curated by Klaus Kertess, who noticed his painting talent at The Bridghampton Historical Society’s, earlier that year. In this show, Of a Different Feather, Jake moves from his prominent self portrait series to portraits of close friends. Having completed his Freshman year at the School of Visual Arts in NYC (Dean’s List), Jake continues to work on his BFA this year at the California Institute of the Arts.

Gordon Stevenson and Robert S. L. Waltzer have been collaborating on their neon light sculptures for several years and will now exhibit their most recent series.

Mr. Stevenson (BFA Bard, 2006), has shown in New York City galleries, including 7eleven Gallery. He had a solo exhibition at Ochi Gallery in Idaho, and was in a group show at The American Standard Gallery, in Miami, Florida. His creative drive and inspiration also led to the creation of the clothing/ lifestyle line Barron Von Fancy.

Robert Waltzer (BA, Bard, 2007) studied industrial design at RISD, worked with mentor Larry Poons at the Art Students League in NYC, and graduated with a degree in philosophy. Teaming up with his creative contemporaries, Mr. Waltzer’s conceptual installation pieces have drawn attention in the New York City art scene.

Probably most notable in this unique pool of talent is Lisa de Kooning, with her magnetic bronze sculptures. Having lived and breathed art from birth with one of the most influential artists of the nineteenth century, (her father, Willem de Kooning), Lisa inherited a great love and understanding of beauty and art. As a lifelong student of the arts, who studied at Lacoste School of the Arts, in France, and one who has immense love for animals, previously training at the San Diego Zoo, Lisa developed an adept hand that complimented her natural and intuitive touch. This group exhibition will mark the very first time Ms de Kooning will show her work; impressive sculptures ranging from the 1980s to her most recent works made specifically for the show.

Tripoli Patterson, making a mark on the art scene the last four years for his avant-garde group shows in mysterious locations around the Hamptons and New York City, has assembled yet again, a noteworthy group of individuals for a much anticipated show. Mr Patterson, 24, has a keen eye and a deep love for art, which has moved him to take on the responsibility of sole proprietor of Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art.

Of a Different Feather opening reception for the artists: August 22nd, 2009, from 5-8 pm.
Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art, 30A Jobs Lane, Southampton (opposite the Parish Art Museum).
